This quote is used to express the idea that Jesus gave His own blood for our sins, so that we may have eternal life. The writer of the Bible also implies that Jesus' blood was shed for our sins, but it was not His blood alone that was shed. The author argues that Jesus' blood was shed by other people, as well. The word "shed" is used once again here because Jesus' blood was not spilled by Himself.
